Tips for Giving Candidates a Positive Interview Experience

The interview is the best time to get to know a job candidate. You will be able to find out if they are qualified for the position and a good fit for your company. A positive interview experience can also set your company above other companies that the candidate may be interviewing at.

3 Tips to Give Your Job Candidates a Positive Interview Experience

  • Ask Purposeful Questions

Don’t “wing it” or be too casual in the job interview. This is the time to ask purposeful questions that will help you determine whether the candidate is a good fit for your company and qualified for the job. Ask specific questions about the role and responsibilities, in addition to open-ended questions that give the candidate a chance to make a pitch.

  • Research the Candidates

A quick search on Google will bring you to several social network profiles, and maybe an online portfolio, resume or blog. You should also read up on the materials they provided during the job application process. A good candidate will come to the interview having done their research on your company, so you should do research on your interviewees as well.

  • Answer Any Question Seriously

Most candidates will have at least a few questions to ask during the interview. Do your best to take the questions seriously and give the best answers that you can. If you know a colleague could answer their question better, then rely on them instead.
